Thermal Design Engineer

Sheetak Inc. · Austin, Texas Metropolitan Area · 2 wk ago
HybridInformation TechnologyFull-time

Sheetak is a pioneer in solid-state thermoelectric technology, delivering precision thermal management solutions across industries including medical devices, aerospace, defense, data center cooling, and industrial electronics. As we continue to grow our thermal engineering team, we are seeking a motivated Thermal Design Engineer to join us in Austin, Texas.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Thermal Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to system-level thermal management solutions, leveraging simulation tools and hands-on laboratory testing to bring high-performance products from concept to production. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of heat transfer principles, experience with SolidWorks and CFD modeling, and a passion for building and testing physical prototypes. You will work closely with senior engineers to design, analyze, and validate systems incorporating solid state thermoelectric cooling technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop component and system-level thermal models using SolidWorks Flow Simulation to predict steady-state and transient thermal behavior.
  • Assist in the design and integration of thermoelectric coolers into a full thermal management system, including heat sinks, interface materials, and fans.
  • Conduct trade studies to optimize thermal performance, weight, cost, and reliability.
  • Design, set up, and execute thermal test plans for prototype assemblies.
  • Utilize lab equipment (thermocouples, data acquisition systems, thermal cameras, power supplies) to collect accurate performance data.
  • Analyze test results against simulation models to validate accuracy, identify discrepancies, and iterate on designs.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to ensure thermal constraints are met without compromising overall system functionality.
  • Document simulation findings, test reports, and design recommendations in clear, concise technical memos.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a focus on thermal-fluid sciences.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience (strong internship or academic project experience in thermal engineering is highly valued).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling) and SolidWorks Flow Simulation, or equivalent CFD tools like Ansys Icepak/Fluent or Star-CCM+.
  • Solid understanding of first-principles heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation) and thermodynamics.
  • Familiarity with the operating principles, sizing, and control of Thermoelectric Coolers (TECs).
  • Hands-on experience in a lab environment: building test fixtures, wiring sensors, and using data acquisition (DAQ) hardware.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proactive attitude and eagerness to learn from senior mentors.

Benefits

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO).
