Job Responsibilities
- Support the execution of the mechanical design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program / project requirements.
- Lead team responsible for performing thermodynamic system analysis to inform the design, manufacturing, construction and licensing strategy of various advanced reactor plants.
- Provides support for the management of the utilization of engineering resources across multiple projects and ensures qualified engineers are performing assigned work.
- Lead design cycle sprints and provide direction to ensure the convergence of efforts of engineering team members, partners, and suppliers to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality engineering work products are on schedule and within budget as defined by the Project leadership.
- Manage mechanical engineering staff by ensuring they are meeting expectations and promoting their professional development.
- Influence and support the development of strategy, methodology and technical tools for the area of responsibility.
- Interpret internal business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, tools, or services.
- Use judgement to support with making decisions and handling complex tasks or problems in areas of operations, product management, technology, or engineering.
- Plan and perform the analysis required to assess aspects of the SSCs to ensure they can perform their intended functions and meet technical specifications and design requirements.
- Perform computations utilizing hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations as required at the direction of project leads and systems engineers to ensure SSCs can meet technical requirements.
- Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to create the next generation nuclear power plants.
- Perform work in accordance with design control procedures, ensuring thorough documentation of work, facilitation of internal and external design reviews, and control of product design configuration data.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Typically, seven years of engineering experience.
- Graduate degrees typically count as two plus years of experience.
- Use of 1D flow-solvers performing heat/energy and mass balance (e.g., RELAP, Flownex, NPSS, SINDA/FLUINT, ASPEN Plus, Flomaster, or similar).
Preferred Skills
- Five or more years of dedicated thermal-hydraulic or thermodynamic systems analysis experience within the nuclear industry.
- Supervisory experience: perform yearly performance reviews, guide career development, and provide coaching and conflict resolution.
- Execute project schedule – ensure team delivers technical tasks on-time while maintaining quality.
- Plant-Level Steady-state Analysis: oversee/perform thermodynamic assessment of primary and secondary systems to define cycle efficiency and mass and energy balance.
- Plant-level Transient Analysis: Oversee/ Evaluate system behavior during normal operational cycles and off-normal accident scenarios.
- Deep understanding of single and two-phase flow fluid mechanics, heat transfer phenomena, and plant dynamics.
