About the role

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lake Charles focuses on helping adults and seniors manage mental health issues such as anxiety and depression through various inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct clinical services in accordance with accepted standards of social/work clinical practice.
• Plans and conducts individual, family, and/or group therapy as assigned.
• Conducts, assesses, and interprets Comprehensive Integrated Assessments within 72 hours of admission.
• Reviews and compiles Multidisciplinary Treatment Integrations within 96 hours of admission.
• Performs case management and discharge planning as assigned.
• Attends treatment team meetings and reports on assigned patients’ progress.
• Delivers patient services in an ethical manner promoting respect and enhancing patient dignity and satisfaction.
• Affords age/disability/cultural sensitivity in assessing and interpreting patient responses to treatment.
• Assesses and interprets age/disability/cultural needs; identifies safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs; communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive manner to patients and their families.
• Conducts treatment and discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs and involves members of the patient's support system in decision-making as appropriate.

Requirements

• At a minimum a Clinical Social Worker (CSW), LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Psychologist.
• 0 to 1 year post-graduate experience in clinical practice.
• Completed at least two semesters of internship—one of which must have been with a specific mentally ill population: Adolescent, Adults, and Geriatrics.
• An internship within chemical dependency field is also acceptable.

Qualifications / Skills

• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related disability-related needs of the patients served on assignment.
• Absorbs and interprets data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s needs and provide appropriate care, including age-specific care/disability/cultural sensitivity care to adolescent, chronically mentally ill, adult, geriatric, chemically dependent, and dually diagnosed patient populations.
• Has in-depth knowledge of mental illness and chemical dependency and the family dynamics which accompany them.
• Has in-depth knowledge of clinical therapy modalities.
• Has excellent communication and group/process skills as related to age-specific patient needs.
• Has assessment, intervention, treatment, and discharge planning skills.
• Passes the general age/disability post-test.
• Is versatile, flexible, and able to perform in stressful situations.
• Has good time and organizational skills.
• Is capable of coordinating multi-faceted workload.
• Is able to work with an array of mental/physical disabled persons.
• Successfully completes CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.

Working Environment

Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high-paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to the atmosphere. This person might sometimes experience disagreeable odors, sights, and/or unpredictable patient behavior. Work requires spending approximately 85% or more of the time inside a building, which offers protection.
