Therapist
About the role
This position provides therapeutic services to justice-involved youth, offering individual, group, and family therapy. It involves collaborating with the Child and Family Team and advocating for youth's needs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions with justice-involved youth.
- Formulate treatment plans using evidence-based modalities and evaluate treatment outcomes.
- Facilitate family participation in the treatment process and engage family members through educational and support groups.
- Consult with staff and participate in the development and monitoring of individual behavior plans for detained youth.
- Participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings and other staffing meetings as necessary.
- Prepare progress notes and other reports as needed.
- Provide consultation, education, and training to staff and other groups, including parents and community members.
- May testify at hearings or in court as required.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and relevant laws and regulations regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.
Requirements
A Master’s degree in a behavioral health-related field and at least two (2) years of post-master’s professional work experience working with youth providing mental health and/or family therapy. Must be licensed as an Associate Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Master’s level Social Worker through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners or an equivalent approved by the Juvenile Court’s Director of Therapeutic Services. Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred, as is two (2) years of experience providing direct therapy to youth ages 8-17. Must become independently licensed within three (3) years of hire.

- Knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature of mental health practice.
- Understanding of social aspects of mental illness and emotional and behavioral disorders.
- Knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of court processes, legal terminology, and justice system administrative processes and protocols.
- Knowledge of psychotherapeutic and behavioral healthcare, including assessment, intervention, and managing behavior.
- Knowledge of state codes and regulations pertaining to juvenile justice involved youth.
- Skills in evaluating behavioral health problems and making recommendations based on observations.
- Ability to interact with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Skills in understanding, interpreting, and applying relevant statutes, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, other organizations, and community representatives.
- Proficiency in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard software including an electronic medical record.
