Therapeutic Recreation Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to manage and oversee recreation activities and personnel for a single large program area. This position develops, coordinates, manages and promotes the educational and wellness programs, activities and events for individuals with disabilities ages five and older. The primary responsibilities is for programs at the Senior and Therapeutic Recreation Center, but may include other spaces within the division. This includes all aspects of program implementation, including oversight, budgeting, evaluation, scheduling, analysis and reporting of program results. This position is also responsible for hiring, onboarding, training and supervising full-time and part-time staff. This position will also respond to public inquiries and maintain relationships with members of the public, and in various internal and external meetings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in a field related to the job such as Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Special Education, and Health and Human Services
• Four years of related experience, one of which has been directly supervising or managing employees
• Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education
• Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience; however there are no substitutes for the required supervisory/management experience

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

• All certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment
• Valid driver's license to qualify
• First Aid and CPR/AED Certification must be obtained within the first six months of employment
• Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification and Water Safety Instructor Certification within the first six months of employment

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to work flexible hours and/or weekends, holidays, perform on-call duty, and split shifts when required
• All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16. In addition, this position within the Divisions of Parks and Recreation requires Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) checks before employment.
