Therapeutic Recreation Director

Responsibilities

• Planner and delivery of activities programs
• Designs and implements a comprehensive activities program
• Schedules and posts programs at least 5 days per week
• Encourages resident participation and social interaction
• Conducts individual and group activities based on resident assessments
• Empowers residents to be involved in planning and choosing activities
• Completes assessments (initial, quarterly, annual, and as needed)
• Documents activities in medical records
• Integrates Therapeutic Recreation (TR) goals into resident care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Recruits, orients, trains, monitors, and evaluates volunteers
• Maintains volunteer engagement and recognizes service contributions
• Ensures understanding of role boundaries
• Manages department budget, staff hours, supplies, and equipment
• Ensures safety, sanitation, and infection control standards
• Acts as Resident Council Advisor
• Participates in leadership meetings, facility inspections, audits, and offsite TR professional development

Qualifications

• Must be a TR Specialist or Activities Professional licensed or registered in Minnesota and eligible for certification as a TR Specialist or as an Activities Professional
• Or have 2 years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, 1 of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting
• Or have a qualification as a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
• Or have completed a training course approved by the state of Minnesota
