Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Provide instruction and facilitation to groups and individual children under the direction of the Teacher
  • Collaborate with the Teacher to assess the strengths and needs of children and design appropriate classroom activities
  • Plan activities for assigned groups or individual children
  • Implement the daily schedule as assigned
  • Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's artwork, and other hangings
  • Serve breakfast, lunches, and snacks
  • Help with materials and room clean-up and organization
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children, using positive behavior interventions and preventative strategies to manage classroom behavior
  • Complete required number of training hours each year by attending in-house in-services and local workshops and trainings
  • Assume temporary responsibilities of the teacher in her/his absence
  • Report any special needs or problems of individual children to the classroom teacher
  • Work with children who have special health care needs, supporting the teacher
  • Report any cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Director or make a direct call to DCYF (1-800-RICHILD)
  • Follow a 4-month rotating work schedule of 8.5 hours within the times the center is open (7:00 am – 5:30 pm)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required
  • At least 1-year supervised experience working with children with special needs, including social/emotional disorders and/or developmental disabilities in a typical childcare program

Qualifications

  • Some college credit in the fields of early childhood, special education, or psychology preferred

Pay

$18.00–$25.82

Schedule

M–F; shifts vary: 8:00–4:30, 8:30–5:00, or 9:00–5:30; 8 hours daily
