Theology Teacher

About the role

St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is seeking a Theology Teacher for the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis. The Theology Teacher is a prayerful and practicing Roman Catholic committed to the mission of the education, evangelization, and catechesis of high school students. This role involves teaching theology classes, preparing lessons, and working collaboratively with the Department Chair, Chaplain, Campus Minister, and Administrative Team to promote the truths, beauty, and goodness of the Gospel and the Catholic faith.

Responsibilities

• Teaches theology classes to high school students
• Prepares daily lessons and instruction of assigned classes in accordance with school and diocesan curriculum
• Manages classroom discipline and student behavior
• Diagnoses and evaluates students' mastery of learning, preparing remedial lessons where necessary
• Reports student progress to parents as needed and during school-scheduled conferences
• Attends and participates in meetings pertaining to the professional planning and evaluation of the school program
• Performs additional supervision and duties during the school day
• Lives an exemplary life of holiness and serves as a role model for students, families, and school personnel
• Is publicly and privately faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church as contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Code of Canon Law

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Catholic Theology or Catechetics is preferred
• Ability to articulate the truths of the Catholic Faith in a precise yet accessible way to high school students
• Understanding of the Kerygma, Sacred Scripture, and the principles of Catholic Social Teachings
• Capacity for communicating well with high school students, parents, and colleagues
• Commitment to the mission of Catholic education, evangelization, and catechesis

Pay

Salary: $48,000 - $83,000 (depending on experience)

Schedule

Monday through Friday work week with occasional weekends and evenings as dictated by the school calendar.
