Job Description

Varying schedule based on the needs of production.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theatre arts, particularly scenic design and construction.
  • Ability to collaborate with and teach students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Expertise in scenic design for theatrical productions, including plays and musicals.
  • Proficiency in CAD drafting, scaled production models, white models, painter’s elevations, 3D renderings, and detailed scene sheets.
  • Ability to paint scenery using industry-standard techniques and materials.
  • Experience with Ariel Work Platforms (AWPs) and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
  • Understanding of Career and Technical Education (CTE) program objectives.

Special Requirements

  • Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.

  • Ability to translate creative concepts into clear, actionable technical documentation.
  • Experienced in integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern technologies.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and community leaders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline AND two years of professional experience.
  • Associate degree in any discipline AND six years of professional experience.
  • Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
  • The equivalent of the above qualifications.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to adapt instructional methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Expertise in scenic construction materials and methods.
  • Experience working in theme parks and entertainment venues.
  • Commitment to preparing students for real-world careers in the performing arts and entertainment industries.

Salary Range

$1572.67 - $1725.85 per lecture unit rate, $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lab parity unit rate, $1258.16 - $1380.60 per lab unit rate
