About the role
The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a program of study, creating a conducive learning environment, guiding the learning process, employing various instructional techniques, assessing student achievements, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
- Plans a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Creates a classroom environment that supports learning and aligns with students' maturity and interests.
- Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals, sets clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and prepares written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical constraints and student capabilities.
- Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy, goals, and performance expectations through instruction and actions.
- Affords regular assessments of student accomplishments, provides progress reports, and communicates with parents as needed.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Determines the learning challenges of students regularly and seeks assistance from district specialists as necessary.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Fulfills the district's code of conduct for the classroom and enforces rules of classroom behavior fairly and justly.
- Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals, and makes written evaluations as required.
- Maintains a continuous program of professional growth that meets district requirements and personal expectations.
- Participates in the contractually approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to mutually agreed-upon results.
- Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among staff.
- Attends traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
- Contributes to decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
- Appropriate content/program area educator license (Theater) and grade level (All) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
