About the role
Theater Stage Manager at Spartanburg Methodist College will assist in producing the Fall 2026 Theater Production directed by Prof. Kate Roark.
Responsibilities
- Available in the evenings from 5:45-9:15 Mondays through Thursdays for rehearsals, and the weekend of the performances.
- Take down detailed notes about the blocking choices decided on during rehearsals, including rough sketches to show actor/set positions.
- Be "on book" to give lines to actors after the "off book" deadline.
- Call cues from the booth during tech and dress rehearsals as well as performances.
- Help set up and put away set and props needed for rehearsal.
- Sweep the stage nightly.
- Keep track of conflicts actors have with rehearsal times, and keep records about on time/late arrival of actors to rehearsals. Maintain good communication with Dr. Roark and the cast about any conflicts and issues that may disrupt the scheduled rehearsals or work times.
- Gather all cast and crew phone numbers and create a group communication hub (GroupMe has been our historical choice) and send out updates to the group as needed.
- Create a master Cue script, with all light and sound cues, for use during tech and dress rehearsals and performances.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Schedule
Rehearsals typically occur from 5:45-9:15 PM Monday through Thursday, with additional weekend commitments for performances.
