Stage Manager

About the role

Performs a variety of tasks associated with concert hall technical work, including stage management of backstage, lighting, audio, video, and coordination with front of house. Serves as the building representative for events.

Responsibilities

• Set up stage for concerts, events, rehearsals, etc. as requested.
• Oversee AV streaming equipment and monitor concert live stream in coordination with Music Technology Supervisor.
• Prepare the building for concerts, events, rehearsals, etc.
• Perform post-concert/event/rehearsal clean up of the hall.
• Respond to emergencies as necessary.
• Operate the light board for rehearsals and performances.
• Prepare and operate the soundboard for rehearsals and performances.
• Climb ladders, move heavy equipment and instruments, and work with a variety of tools.
• Coordinate ushers during events.
• Inspect and maintain stage equipment.
• Inspect systems utilized by each tenant and provide information to administration for damages and use fees.
• Maintain a calm demeanor backstage and set the standard for behavior.
• Exercise authority to stop a performance in progress for safety issues concerning performers or the audience.
• Directly coordinate emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Make pre-concert announcements.
• Serve as a building representative for events.
• Set up projectors and screens as necessary.

Requirements

• Two years of full-time professional experience in one or more of the listed technical theatrical skills, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

• Music or theatrical experience preferred.
• University of Utah students are encouraged to apply.

Pay

$13.00 per hour

Schedule

Varies each week based on performance/event schedule—nights, weekends, and days. Assigned by the Special Events Coordinator.
