Stage Manager

About the role

The Neptune Stage Manager will work in concert with the Neptune Theater Manager, overseeing Production Advance, day-of-show load-in and load-out, run-of-show, and the development and implementation of venue policy and procedure. This role serves as the primary point of contact for all production, stage equipment, the stage, and its support areas for every show at the Neptune Theater.

Responsibilities

• Manage and assist with all aspects of stage operations on night-of-show, from load-in through load-out.
• Address tour production needs and maintain direct contact with the tour’s production and/or tour manager via cell phone, email, and in-person communication on day-of-show.
• Ensure adherence to the day’s schedule, manage breaks, supervise crew, and maintain a safe work environment.
• Maintain the stage area to provide a safe and clean work environment.
• Oversee show operations hands-on to ensure safe and smooth execution.
• Distribute and explain day-of-show production needs to all production staff.
• Assist with planning and execution of venue policies and procedures.
• Assist with new hire paperwork and orientation.
• Collaborate with the Technical Director on updates and ongoing maintenance schedules for stage operations.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of traditional stage equipment and departments.
• Demonstrated attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teams, including house crew, over-hire crew, road crew, and clients.
• Ability to work with the Technical Director on work duties and priorities.
• Ability to adapt positively to changing show priorities and fluctuating schedules.
• Ability to work safely and predictably under stressful conditions and long hours.
• Proactive in work assignments and capable of working independently.
• Ability to work collaboratively with resident arts organizations to achieve common goals.

Physical Requirements

• Physical mobility, including balancing, bending, carrying, climbing, crawling, reaching, squatting, and twisting.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds alone.
• Long hours expected; 10- to 12-hour days are regular.
• Standing for more than 30% of the time while performing essential duties (mostly dynamic and intermittent with walking; surfaces vary: concrete, gravel, earth, linoleum, hardwood, plywood, carpet).
• Walking for more than 30% of the time while performing essential duties (surfaces vary: concrete, gravel, earth, linoleum, hardwood, plywood, carpet).
• Sitting for up to 40% of the time while performing essential duties (e.g., advancing shows, paperwork, show prep, scheduling).

Pay

$37–$40 per hour.
