About the Project
Intelligent Television, Insignia Films, and PBS are producing an epic television and education project on the history of the American South in the 20th century. This initiative aims to document and preserve the diverse cultures, histories, and legacies of the region. The urgency of this project is underscored by the passing of influential Southern figures such as Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Strom Thurmond, David Brinkley, Dale Earnhardt, Willie Morris, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King.
“The South” seeks to collect, archive, and convey these histories before they are lost.
