Artefacts / Asteria ART · Indiana, United States · 3 days ago
OTHRFull-time

Artefacts is building a set of software tools for robotics software developers, facilitating Continuous Simulation in their workflow and tight integration with CI. We aim to help developers tackle the challenge of creating an advanced robotized world that enables a more efficient and environmentally friendly society. We also believe emerging AI techniques will dramatically change how robotics software is built.

About the role

The role focuses on creating robotic applications that enable robots to perform advanced tasks in complex environments, including navigation, manipulation, environment understanding, and autonomy. You will work with hardware development platforms (mobile robots, robotic arms, sensors) and develop application code, with the freedom to customize hardware as needed. Some projects involve developing applications on simulated robots where hardware is not yet available. You will use our artefacts platform to support and accelerate your development.

We think robots will benefit from new software paradigms like software 2.0 and distributed intelligence, and your work will involve AI. Your contributions will help shape our platform.

Requirements

  • Enthusiasm and interest in robotics and AI
  • Readiness to join a startup—expect a dynamic, sometimes messy environment that requires personal commitment
  • Publicly visible work demonstrating your skills, such as:
    • A ServerFault or StackOverflow account
    • A GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket account
    • A personal blog or Medium contributions
    • Presentations at meetups
    • Work you’re proud of

Skills

We are interested in experience with the following technologies and skills:

  • Deep Learning Libraries: TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX
  • Robotics frameworks: ROS, ROS 2, YARP
  • Computer vision: OpenCV
  • Embedded programming
  • Programming languages: Python, Rust, Go, C, Julia
  • Distributed version control (Git)
  • Container technology (e.g., Docker)
  • Experience adapting research to real-world use cases
  • Simulation technology: Gazebo, Isaac Sim
  • Hardware: electronics, CAD, 3D printing

We have no strict experience-level requirements and encourage you to apply even if you only partially meet the above criteria.

Ideal Candidate

We would love to talk with you if you score highly on the items above. Additional strengths that would be beneficial include:

  • Experience with “real-world” robot applications
  • A real passion for robotics software
  • A graduate degree in a related discipline (though not required to apply)
  • Advanced analytical skills

Note: While a degree is not necessary, it may complicate the visa-application process if extensive related work experience is lacking.

Benefits

  • Encouragement to ask “why” and foster an inclusive, growth-oriented environment
  • Honest salaries with no bonus culture
  • Modern offices within 5 minutes’ walk from Shinjuku station (the building is 1 year old)
  • Flexibility to work remotely, from the office, or a mix of both
  • Gather at the office when needed
  • Open-source contributions when it makes sense
  • Medical checkup support in Tokyo
  • Full or part-time work as you prefer
  • Typically start with a three-month contract to begin collaboration

Remote-first team with a preference for candidates in the JST timezone or Japan (due to hardware requirements).
