The Foundation
About the Foundation
The Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation was established in 1977 in memory of Shri Jamnalal Bajaj, a close associate and adopted fifth son of Mahatma Gandhi. Inaugurated by then Prime Minister Shri Morarji Desai, the Foundation promotes Gandhian philosophy and constructive work programs, striving to serve the ideals of Shri Jamnalal Bajaj and advance socio-economic development in India and abroad.
Shri Jamnalal Bajaj played a pivotal role in the Gandhian Constructive Movement. Leadership of the Foundation was guided by Shri Ramkrishna Bajaj for seventeen years, followed by Shri Rahul Bajaj from 1994 until February 2022. After his passing, Shri Shekhar Bajaj, elder son of Shri Ramkrishna Bajaj, assumed the role of Chairman to continue the legacy.
The Foundation upholds Shri Jamnalal Bajaj’s principles, which remain relevant and inspirational. To recognize outstanding contributions aligned with Gandhian values, the Foundation instituted four annual awards honoring exemplary work at the grassroots level.
