The Forgotten Europe Project
About Us
The Forgotten Europe Project is a student-led initiative preserving the stories, traditions, and history of Central-Eastern Europe. Our mission is to enlighten the world with narratives omitted from mainstream education through personal interviews and activism for secondary school curriculums. We aim to redefine the marginalized role of the region in global awareness and promote equal representation in learning and discussion.
We believe education is the first step in learning about the past and combatting prejudices. Involved at the state and school district levels, we are the only student-led group pushing for greater education about Central-Eastern Europe’s diverse yet critical history to ensure all are included in the classroom.

Our Mission
Remembering the past to grow together in a world without hate. By learning from history, we can truly understand how to combat all forms of hate and prejudice. We work toward changing understandings of Central-Eastern European crimes against humanity as a point of never-ending learning, not just disposable events of the past. We bring light to all survivors so that no one may be forgotten and promote valuable lessons for all to share as a community.
Why Central-Eastern Europe?
While geographically distant from much of the world, Central-Eastern European history provides critical lessons and advice for the global struggle against prejudice and hatred. Genocides and crimes against humanity, masked by decades of Soviet censorship, remind us that we must learn from the past, not forget it. Only then can we grow together as a united global community. The ongoing war in Ukraine has made this reality even more urgent.
Central-Eastern European history exemplifies how we can all contribute to positive change for all communities. With your help, we can make a difference and bring light to these forgotten topics.
Volunteer Opportunities
We are always looking for volunteers to assist with outreach, social media, writing, and more. Volunteers can self-log their volunteer hours.
