The Dynamic Environments Engineer 3
Location: Denver • Relocation assistance available • 10% travel required
About the role
The Dynamic Environments (DE) team defines and verifies the high-frequency shock, vibration, and acoustic environments for all launch-vehicle and ground-system components and payloads. These environments are derived from vibro-acoustic modeling, industry standards, and in-house methodologies using flight measurements and ground-test data. Statistical enveloping techniques are applied to analysis, flight, and test data to establish design, qualification, and acceptance criteria for vehicle and payload hardware. The team also defines and verifies component test requirements, develops and maintains data-acquisition systems for environment measurement, and supports anomaly identification and resolution.
The successful candidate will focus on Vibro-acoustic Modeling & Software Development, responsible for FEA/SEA model development, evolution, maintenance, and correlation to test and/or flight data. Additional responsibilities include:
- Perform acoustic, shock, and vibration analyses using all available methods.
- Engage in critical thinking and drive decision-making processes.
- Develop, document, and maintain processes, methods, and tools.
- Guide and resolve technical and programmatic issues affecting cost, schedule, and performance.
- Generate analysis reports and present results to internal and external customers.
- Support component shock, acoustic, and vibration testing, including pretest environment derivation and post-test validation.
- Process and analyze flight data to update analysis methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience with signals analysis, acoustics, shock, or random vibration.
- Experience with dynamic tests of subsystems and components.
- Experience deriving acoustics, shock, or random environments from test and/or flight data.
- Experience in Finite Element Modeling (FEM) and NASTRAN or similar finite-element modeling software.
- Experience with Matlab and Linux OS.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Proven ability to solve technically complex problems.
- Strong time and project-management skills, including initiating, planning, monitoring, and controlling.
- Demonstrated mentoring, training, and coaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multiple years’ experience as a technical or project lead.
- Excellent team communication skills (written and verbal).
- Multiple years’ experience directing or conducting dynamics testing.
- Prior experience with large-scale project management and launch-vehicle dynamics.
- Advanced degree with emphasis in acoustics, shock, or random vibration.
Pay
$99,250 – $165,416 per year. Salary is based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations. Eligible employees may receive a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
Benefits
- 401(k) match plus additional employer contribution.
- Generous paid time off.
