About the role

The California Actors Workshop is seeking an experienced and inspiring acting instructor to join our summer faculty for one or two-week conservatory-style programs for middle-school or high school students. The successful candidate will have professional credentials as an actor or director as well as experience teaching. An MFA in Acting or Directing is highly desirable. All applicants should have a strong foundation in Stanislavski-based realism, but additional specialties in musical theater, comedy, movement, voice, improvisation, on-camera acting, or verse drama would also be welcome.

Responsibilities

• Teach acting, creative expression, and public speaking skills to students in a safe and supportive environment.
• Work with high school or college age students in an academic setting.
• Lead daily monologue and scene work sessions, as well as elective classes like improvisation and script writing.
• Provide personalized feedback to each student to help them identify areas for improvement and build upon their strengths.
• Facilitate ensemble scene work to emphasize collaboration and teamwork.
• Assist the camp director with active supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks.
• Guide students on excursions and act as mentors.
• Ensure the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives.

Requirements

• 3+ years' experience teaching acting or significant subject matter knowledge.
• Bachelor's degree required; MFA preferred.
• A passion for theater education.
• A calm and professional demeanor.
• Self-motivation and follow-through.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
