Job Description

Creston Games is an independent game studio focused on creating innovative games. We are currently developing a semi-open world cooking/action-adventure game that blends exploration, progression, emergent gameplay, and cooperative systems. This is a revenue share position, with compensation based on revenue sharing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality materials and textures for environments, props, architecture, and world-building assets.
  • Develop tileable materials, trim sheets, and reusable material solutions that support an efficient production pipeline.
  • Collaborate closely with Environment Artists to maintain a consistent visual language across the project.
  • Create believable surface variation, wear, and environmental detail that enhances immersion and storytelling.
  • Optimize materials and textures for real-time rendering while maintaining visual quality.
  • Gather and analyze real-world references to support authentic material creation.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Texture Artist, Material Artist, or similar role in game development.
  • Strong understanding of modern material workflows and physically based rendering principles.
  • Proficiency with Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Designer, Photoshop, or equivalent industry-standard tools.
  • Strong artistic eye for color variation, material definition, surface detail, and environmental storytelling.
  • Understanding of optimization techniques and real-time rendering constraints.
  • Ability to create materials that balance artistic quality with production efficiency.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating material creation and texture work.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote and asynchronous development environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience creating procedural materials in Substance Designer.
  • Familiarity with shader workflows and material setup within Unity.
  • Experience with vertex painting, layered materials, and material blending techniques.
