About the role
The Asian Art Museum is currently hiring for multiple as needed Security Guards (TEX) to join our team. Located in the heart of San Francisco, the Asian Art Museum is home to one of the world's finest collections of Asian art, boasting more than 18,000 inspiring artworks ranging from ancient jades and ceramics to contemporary video installations. Dynamic special exhibitions, cultural celebrations, and public programs for all ages provide rich art experiences that unlock the past and spark questions about the future.
Nature of work
Typical shifts include varying days and evening shifts, as needed for events and coverage. Hours are based on operational need and there is no guarantee of work assignment/hours. This position is typically assigned to a standing and walking post at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco located at 200 Larkin Street, San Francisco, CA, 94102.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, the Security Guard patrols public buildings and grounds to safeguard property against damage, hazardous situations or unauthorized entry and performs other related duties as required. In addition, Security Guards are responsible for:
- Providing excellent customer service
- Enforcing rules and regulations governing the access to and use of public facilities
- Preparing routine reports of time and work done
- Patrolling and safeguarding of facilities
- Observing and being aware of the surrounding environment and recognizing potentially dangerous situations and reacting appropriately
- Performing basic incidental duties as needed
Minimum qualifications
- One year of verifiable experience as a security officer
- Possession of a current California Security Guard Registration Card issued by the California State Bureau of Security and Investigative Services
- Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
- Possession of a valid state motor vehicle operator's license
Desired qualifications
- Experience working in a museum or at a cultural institution
- Experience with working near fragile and/or valuable materials

This recruitment is for an As Needed, Temporary Exempt (TEX) position. This position is at-will and exempt from the civil service rules pursuant to the San Francisco Charter Section 10.104.
