About the role
ECMS operates globally in 15 countries with approximately 20 production sites and over 4,000 employees. As a Testing Lab Manager – Huntsville, AL, you will lead the day-to-day activities of the testing lab at the Huntsville site, be accountable for the overall performance of all lab personnel across all shifts, maintain lab procedures, manage measurement instruments, communicate cross-functionally, participate in audits, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Having overall responsibility for the day-to-day activities of the testing lab at the Huntsville site.
- Being accountable for the overall performance of all lab personnel across all shifts.
- Maintaining lab procedures; ensuring adherence to standards; updating lab equipment as needed; and planning material resources, staffing and workflow.
- Managing all measurement instruments and verifying their conformity to required standards.
- Leading and supervising employees to ensure all safety policies and procedures are understood and followed and taking immediate action to correct any unsafe working conditions.
- Communicating cross-functionally throughout the site and participating in audits as needed.
- Actively participating in problem solving and root cause analysis with production, engineering, and quality assurance.
- Analyzing and resolving work related issues, addressing disciplinary matters; conducting performance evaluations; maintaining attendance records’ processing payroll for assigned employees; and enabling the team to become more self-sufficient through training and coaching.
- Identifying areas of improvement in the lab and leading continuous improvement initiatives to improve overall quality outcomes at the site.
- Maintaining lab compliance with the Huntsville QMS and ISO9001/IATF16949 requirements.
- Owning and maintaining lab compliance with ISO17025 and ISO17034 Certifications, including managing internal and external audits, addressing any open nonconformance, and ensuring follow up actions are completed.
- Being accountable for lab KPIs and working with lab personnel to initiate projects that address lab performance.
- Leading 5S activities across the lab and continue to drive improvement in workplace organization.
- Promoting a strong safety culture in alignment with company policy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemistry, Engineering, or Quality Management
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a quality, engineering, or research role, 2 years of which should have been required in the lab environment.
- Experience leading projects and/or teams strongly preferred.
- Capability to work in a large, complex matrix organization with capacity to operate independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong project management, advanced communication, influencing, and negotiation skills combined with team leadership, analytical, and problem-solving acumen.
- Familiarity with quality systems including ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 17025/17034 required
- Knowledge with core quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC and MSA preferred
- PDCA, LSS, Continual Improvement experience.
- Working knowledge of SAP and statistical analysis software
- ASQ certification in Quality, Engineering, and Auditing preferred.
- LSS Yellow Belt, Green Belt or Black belt certification preferred.

Pay
The competitive Pay Range for this role is $120k-$150k annually. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
