About the role
The Tech II is responsible for performing the testing activities in the Durability test lab and coordinating testing activities to meet the service requirements of the laboratory for Furniture and/or Package Testing.
Responsibilities
- Prepare test specimens, perform testing, and reporting of test results.
- Includes physical, mechanical, visual inspections on tables, chairs, desks, pallets, boxes, etc.
- Read, understand, and follow lab standard operating procedures, or Standard test Methods and /or client test methods as required by the customers.
- Coordinate work with other department team members to complete testing, reporting and report issues in a timely manner.
- Communicate project status details to Department Manager and timely communicate any delays with the project stakeholders.
- Provide support in test selection, review of lab test results and explain test results.
- Assist in keeping inventory of laboratory and equipment supplies necessary for the day-to-day functioning of the laboratory and in compiling a list of supplies to be ordered in a timely manner.
- Organize tested and remnant samples from laboratory for sample archiving by logistics department.
- Demonstrate test procedure to auditors, clients and support account managers during client visits.
- Absorb and maintain general cleanliness and upkeep of the laboratory.
- Assist in ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation and calibration activities of the laboratory and perform daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks on equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and 3+ years of directly related experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or directly related technical field.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Fluency in using computers is required.
- Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools.
- Ability to review, understand, and convey technical information in an effective manner.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills, in both verbal and written formats.
Qualifications

Skills
- Experience with ISTA and/or BIFMA test standards.
- Experience in ISO 17025 accredited laboratory with focus on Furniture and/or Package Testing.
- Programming PLC experience is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is a plus.
