Test Technician - 2nd Shift

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is a trusted provider of mission-enabling solutions for global security, offering a wide portfolio of secure, affordable, integrated, and multi-domain systems and technologies. This role is based in Elkridge, MD, on the 2nd shift (3:00 PM – 12:30 AM).

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements in accordance with customer specifications.
• Install, calibrate, and maintain electronic communication equipment at various customer sites.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems remotely and in a field environment; recommend corrective actions.
• Communicate with internal and external customers, Program Managers, and executives.
• Construct, test, operate, analyze, and modify complex systems.
• Aid in the creation and modification of technical publications and procedures.
• Plan, layout, develop, and construct experimental and prototype devices and test equipment with general or incomplete information.
• Perform tests and measurements on complex devices, assemblies, and systems.
• Conduct initial procedural tests on new or changed equipment; make modifications, record and analyze data, and supply reports and test specifications.
• Troubleshoot complete, complex systems and test set-ups to locate and repair defective areas.
• Recommend empirical design changes on components, units, and systems.
• Identify operational problems, difficulties, and deficiencies; suggest operational changes to improve timeliness, efficiency, and performance.
• Demonstrate proper techniques for testing, modifying, and maintaining assigned equipment.
• Develop methods and techniques for effectively monitoring tests at a systems level.
• Determine the effect of engineering changes on the total system and initiate actions to ensure compatibility.
• Provide information, guidance, training, and direction to lower-classified personnel and internal/external customers.
• Perform computer and network administration duties on small and medium-scale computer systems.
• Troubleshoot small network problems and provide training and instruction to users.
• Make design change recommendations to improve producibility and maintainability.
• Provide customer and management with status reports showing percent complete and estimated completion dates.
• Work with Management to quote new and follow-on work using experience and knowledge of assembly processes.
• Work from engineering drawings, sketches, engineering change notes, and verbal information.
• Check work for compliance to drawing specifications and configurations periodically during assembly.
• Analyze and evaluate electronic assembly operations to resolve problems.
• Make recommendations to program and management personnel for process improvements.
• Work with engineers on design problems to develop units and make design changes that improve performance.
• Perform complete mechanical assembly of basic units and assemblies to established procedures.
• Perform fitting, aligning, and adjusting to drawing specifications.
• Install Heli-coils, rivets, swage nuts to panels, etc.; layout and drill holes, counter bore, saw, cut out, and similar tasks.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED with 4 years of experience in an electronic or technical field, or an Associate’s Degree with 2 years of experience in an electronic or technical field.
• Experience with computers, test applications, PC maintenance, network requirements, TCP/IP or other protocols, and small computer or network administration.
• Experience working with electronic and computer principles and techniques.
• Experience with networks, network protocols, and computer system administration.
• Experience with wiring, assembling, and testing LRUs and SRUs.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
• Experience troubleshooting down to the component level.
• Experience using a variety of hand tools including crimpers and strippers.
• Experience working with limited resources, documentation, or engineering support.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience working in a variety of environmental conditions, including high/confined spaces, damp/dusty locations, and extreme temperatures.
• Ability to lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, balance, walk, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, move, and use equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Valid Driver’s License with no suspensions or restrictions.
• Current/Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance or higher is required.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field.
• Experience with Military electronic/technical environments.
• Experience with SAP and GOLD.
• Experience working with the FAA, DoD, or other government agencies.

Pay

Primary salary range: $50,882.00 – $121,755.00 per year. The final offer considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Relocation assistance is not available for this role. A current/active U.S. Government Secret Clearance (or higher) is required to start. No travel is expected.
