About the role
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking an experienced A4W propulsion plant operator to join the team as a Test Engineer supporting A4W Fleet Interactive Training Equipment (FITE). FITEs are high-fidelity simulation platforms used to develop and maintain the operational readiness skills of the deployed fleet. The successful candidate will support the A4W FITE platform and cross-train to support the A1B FITE platform. Test engineers certify hardware and software-based field changes prior to deployment to FITE sites, focusing on plant operations to confirm FITE operational values align with expected plant response. Test Engineers also support other groups as they develop field changes, leveraging the Bettis-located FITE preproduction units.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from an accredited college or university
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience
- Previous A4W qualification as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW), Propulsion Plant Watch Officer (PPWO), or Engineering Watch Supervisor (EWS)
- Semiannual travel to other NNPP sites
- Ability to cross-train on the A1B platform
- Ability to learn the simulation software platform
- Due to government contract requirements, US citizenship is required
- Active DOE clearance or DOD equivalent is required
