About the role
Corning's Test and Qualification Laboratory provides trusted, standards-based optical testing of fiber optic products to support product innovation cycles. We are seeking a Test and Qualification Lab Supervisor to oversee lab operations and capability development of optical test systems and to provide leadership and guidance to a team of T&Q technicians and engineers.
Primary day to day responsibilities
- Supervise all activity in a fiber optic testing laboratory; responsible for product testing and qualification and the design, development, evaluation & implementation of required optical test and measurement systems, methods & procedures
- Act as primary interface from the T&Q lab to internal customers for test programs and communications
- Evaluate the need for new measurement systems & measurement system automation and implement these systems according to the capability roadmap for the lab
- Ensure robust calibration program in place for all laboratory test equipment
- Develop & administer budgets, schedules and performance standards for the laboratory
- Represent laboratory in internal and external audits, including ISO 17025
- Recruit, hire, integrate talent, and develop a skilled workforce
- Define capital needs for laboratory equipment, write AR's, order and implement equipment into the lab
- Build global linkages to other testing groups within Corning to further the group's expertise and capability
- Effectively interface with all levels of COC organization
- Keep up to date with evolving fiber optic technology and testing procedures, measurement equipment, theories and techniques
Required qualifications
- BSc in Engineering or Optical Physics
- 5+ years of engineering experience in optics and/or optical metrology
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic components and test equipment (lasers, optical switches, power meters)
- Strong knowledge of statistical data analysis
Desired qualifications
- MSc in Engineering or Physics with emphasis in optics
- Accomplished in area of fiber optic measurements (evidenced by published papers, new measurement system development or enhancements, etc.)
- Experience in a laboratory environment supporting product qualifications
- Familiarity with programming, preferably LabVIEW
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards including Telcordia, ISO, & IEC
Pay
The range for this position is $131,667.00 - $181,043.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
