About the role
This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
Responsibilities
- Aspects of applied test engineering including the design, analysis, and operation of test systems for testing fluid, propulsion, mechanical and electronic systems.
- The projects will include the integration of safety, manufacturing, operations, materials and processes, instrumentation, test control systems, and systems engineering.
- Analyzing test data to support requirements verification tasks.
- Directing integration of hardware into our test facilities.
- Congducting test planning, risk assessments, evaluation, and mitigations, test set up, execution, post-test data review, and performance analysis.
- Developing test support software and equipment to improve test frequency and quality.
- Identify, scope, and resolve test-related problems.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, or physics desired). Will have earned their degree within the last year and able to start by Fall 2026.
- Experience in a testing environment and in executing test procedures.
- Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work independently.
- Strong technical fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, technical requirements, and engineering drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant internship/co-op and/or hands-on experience that demonstrate development of both technical skills as well as leadership qualities.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
- Flexible and adaptable mindset.
- Self-driven with the ability to seek out requirements with minimal direction.
- Desired M.S. degree or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering with experimental lab experience.
- Propulsion test experience.
- Experience designing, fabricating, or operating fluid systems.
- Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, silicon diodes, resistance temperature detectors, and accelerometers.
- Operational understanding of engines and engine sub-components, such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves, and other fluid components.
- Hands-on experience with integrating test articles and sub-assemblies for test.
- Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Winplot, or other control, data acquisition, and reduction software.
- Familiarity with CAD applications (ProE or Creo preferred).
