Test Engineer I

About the Role

Join us in championing and protecting explorers and heroes! As a Test Engineer I, you will support the test and certification of advanced aerospace and defense products. Your role involves developing and executing basic test plans and procedures to ensure product requirements are met. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and utilize industry-standard tools to perform tests on components and systems. Our testing approach evolves with design maturity, extending from initial stages through post-production follow-ups on subsequent articles. The role focuses on extensive system testing to assess mission equipment such as communication, computing, navigation, and surveillance systems, ensuring they meet design and functionality standards. Note: This role does not require software or automation testing knowledge.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection, and security solutions worldwide. The MST team supports the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial, and international customers with platform operations, engineering, and full lifecycle management across air, land, sea, space, and cyber domains.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and execution of test plans and procedures.
• Perform basic testing and validation of components and systems/sub-systems.
• Record and analyze test data, providing initial reports on test results.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure test requirements are understood and met.
• Maintain test equipment and ensure proper calibration and functionality.
• Participate in internal/external meetings and briefs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or related field.
• 0-2+ years of experience in test engineering or a related role.
• Basic understanding of requirements, testing principles, and methodologies.
• Conceptual knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
• Knowledge of requirements management, system design, and systems integration.
• Exposure to planning, conducting, and documenting Verification and Validation (V&V) activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship or project experience in aerospace or defense industry.
• Experience with various testing equipment, standards, and methodologies, including manual and automated testing.
• Ability to prepare complex and professional test plans, test procedures, and test reports to demonstrate compliance with system requirements.
• Ability to read schematics, use service manuals, follow test procedures, and apply logical troubleshooting techniques.

Essential Functions

• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Ability to work in an office, lab, hangar, or offsite environment.

Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF) handles adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process. Factors affecting clearance eligibility include allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, criminal conduct, security violations, and illegal drug use.
