About the role

The Test Engineer on 2nd Shift will play a critical role at Veeco. In this position, you will provide support to Manufacturing and Product Marketing at all levels of tool operation. You will participate in design reviews, develop test plans for new products, provide troubleshooting capabilities and autonomously execute these supportive efforts through to resolution. The Test Engineer leverages their expertise in system operation and maintenance to train technicians. In addition, the Test Engineer will be responsible for new product test method development and implementation along with optimized documented methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the review of customer specifications and tool configuration. This includes informing the appropriate teams when gaps exist.
  • Organize, schedule, and lead in-house customer source inspection for the tool as required. Ensure all action items from customer source inspection are documented, addressed, and closed out.
  • Develop test definition and functional requirements for new products. This includes assisting with testing of new product designs and procedures.
  • Perform marathon cycle testing and troubleshooting of equipment which may include weekend support when needed.
  • Perform electro/mechanical failure mode analysis and provide feedback to design engineering.
  • Support manufacturing and contract manufacturers for new product introduction and transition new products to operations.
  • Perform software and hardware interaction troubleshooting and provide feedback to the software engineering team.
  • Train technicians and new employees on product platforms.
  • Drive continuous improvement of test methodology for equipment.
  • Note additions and modifications needed for quality audit documentation.
  • Perform disposition of non-conforming product as discovered in quality audits.
  • Maintain the knowledge base that consists of, but is not limited to, processes, documentation, and system acceptance test logs.
  • Aid technical product support team with troubleshooting installation issues as needed.
  • Manage and support field escalations off/onsite at key customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required and 5 years of experience working with and troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems (OEM); or a Master’s Degree with 3 years of related experience.
  • Possess a practical mindset with a strong ability to read and interpret highly technical documents (e.g., schematics, mechanical drawings, and assembly drawings, bills of material, routings, operating, maintenance, and safety instructions/procedures) provided in verbal, written, or pictorial form.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and excellent communication skills with the ability to speak with clarity and interface effectively with customer, management, and peers.
  • Adept in the use of computers, software applications, and other technology used for information gathering, product testing, computation. This includes proficiency in the Microsoft Suite- Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, software, and electrical components of tool.
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment preferred.
  • Experience in an engineering role working with electronics and mechanical devices desirable.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD drawing is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel both domestic and international up to 15%.
