Terminal Rail Technician

About the role
Reporting to the AVP of Rail Operations or designee, the Terminal Rail Tech is responsible for essential rail functions in a safety-sensitive and production environment. Key responsibilities include maintaining property and equipment, inspecting railcars daily, and handling inventory data entry.
Responsibilities
- Maintain property & equipment preservation at each location including grounds keeping
- Pull samples of material, document, and store them properly
- Inspect all inbound and outbound railcars daily while reporting major issues immediately
- Perform inventory data entry
- Coverage for other sites/employees
- Check-in trans-load trucks & scales as needed – Site Specific
- Keep accurate records of daily spreadsheets – Site Specific
- Inbound Rail Car Sampling
- Pledge immediate material loss clean up and proper disposal
- Operate with company issued PPE at all times
- Proper use of company issued electronic devices ie; radios, tablets, printers, etc
- Proper use of company issued cell phone – Site Specific
Qualifications
- At least 21 years old
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Word, and Excel
- Reliable means of transportation
- Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
- Able to lift up to 55 lbs, move up to 250 pounds, climb ladders, and use hand tools
- Strong attention to detail
- Railcar experience is a plus
Physical Demands
- Able to perform physical labor such as lifting, moving, climbing, and using hand tools
- Have vision abilities required by this job function to include close visual confirmation of finely printed documents, distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and/or markings, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance

Work Environment
- Performing essential rail functions in a safety-sensitive and production environment in and around a warehouse and railyard
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Occasional long hours, coverage for other full-time employees, assisting other sites as needed, and occasional weekend and holiday work may be required.
Scheduled Shift Hours
Scheduled shift hours are from 3am – 11:30am
Compensation
$21.00 per hour, non-exempt, based on experience
