About the role
The Terminal Operator, under the general supervision of the Lead Terminal Operator and Terminal Manager, is responsible for operating all terminal equipment related to receiving, storing, transferring, and loading refined petroleum products. This role ensures operations are conducted reliably, efficiently, and in compliance with the Partnership’s procedures and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Gauge storage tanks and take meter readings for all products on a daily basis.
- Provide top-tier customer service to commercial and operations customer representatives.
- Calculate and input all product inventories and meter readings into appropriate systems.
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of product inventories and throughputs.
- Perform facility maintenance on office buildings, assets, and vegetation as needed.
- Safely load petroleum products onto trucks and receive products from pipelines.
- Travel to various refined products and crude facilities with little notice to assist terminals across the organization.
- Take product samples as required and perform/log required quality control tests.
- Perform and log all scheduled maintenance and compliance inspections.
- Ensure all terminal equipment is functioning properly and report failures to supervisor.
- Conduct daily walk-around inspections to identify potential risks and maintain good housekeeping standards.
- Issue work permits to contractors, ensuring compliance with pre-job safety meetings, lockout-tagout, confined space entry, and gas tech monitoring requirements.
- Correct or stop all unsafe acts or conditions not in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures by any party entering the facility.
- Remain knowledgeable of and prepared to enact and coordinate Emergency Response activities until relieved by supervisor or management personnel.
- Communicate product outages and equipment downtime to supervisor, customers, and other impacted parties promptly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Effectively communicate with peers and management of various levels.
- Self-starter able to work with little or no supervision.
- Carry a pager or cell phone for shift holdover, reassignment, or call-outs at all hours.
- Able to use basic hand tools and operate basic product testing equipment.
- Proficient in mathematics and able to perform all required calculations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residence.
- Able to notice subtle color differences in product samples.
- Must be willing and able to work as part of a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus on details, and follow work rules.
Qualifications
Experience requirements vary by job level:
- Level C: 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience.
- Level B: 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience.
- Level A: 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions.
- Work in and around industrial and construction settings, which may include hazardous products, processes, materials, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and loud machinery. Requires appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Frequent heavy lifting with and without assistance.
- Work on and around equipment and facilities requiring knowledge of and adherence to safe work procedures and practices.
- Subject to call-outs to respond to operational issues and emergencies after working hours, at night, and on weekends and holidays.
- Reliable attendance at work is required.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Schedule
The primary shift is day shift (Monday – Friday), with opportunities to work night shifts if needed for PTO coverage or vessel traffic.
