Terminal Operator
About the role
The Terminal Operator at Ash Grove Cement performs various tasks including loading trucks, unloading railroad cars, maintaining terminal equipment, and handling customer inquiries. This position reports to the Terminal Manager and works Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM Pacific Standard Time.
Responsibilities
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Affirm proper cement types are loaded into bulk trucks.
- Operate pneumatic and mechanical equipment for truck loading from computer console using programmed screens, keyboard, and mouse.
- Affirm proper cement types are unloaded from railcars into designated silos without contamination of cement types, using pneumatic and hydraulic railcar unloading equipment.
- Operate power sweeper, forklift truck, and front-end loader.
- Use credit approval lists, cement inventory reports, and approved shipping instructions to determine if a customer's request for cement can be loaded.
- Maintain shipping logs, prepare bills of lading, and calculate split-load tonnages based on a trucker's instructions.
- Handle inquiries and orders for customers and sales personnel.
- Perform general cleanup duties around the loading area.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills.
- Proficient in customer service skills.
- Ability to operate the loading systems used in loading trucks and railcars.
- Ability to operate sweeper and general hand tools.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations to calculate loads going into trucks.
- Ability to use terminal equipment and computerized systems.
- Proficiency in database input.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic mechanical, pneumatic and minor electrical malfunctions.
- Ability to operate all terminal equipment, including railcar vibrators, silos, and related equipment, switch engines, and rail cars.
- Knowledge of terminal operation policies and procedures.
- Ability to work under close supervision with standard practice procedures and guidelines.

$21.00 or more depending on experience.
