About the role

In 2025, more than 52 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), making it one of the busiest airports in the United States and a key hub in the nation's fifth-largest city. PHX is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System, which also includes Deer Valley and Goodyear airports, operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department (AVN). Together, these airports generate an annual economic impact of over $44 billion.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the airline scheduling, aircraft gate resources, passenger check-in counters, baggage carousel usage, and flight information displays.
  • Overseeing and managing the Airport's Management System, analyzing flight data, providing necessary reports, and inputting airline flight schedules for tenants utilizing the common use platform.
  • Work closely with field staff to continuously develop new ways to enhance the passenger experience and the airport's terminal operations and common use systems.
  • Cooking all activities within the terminal buildings and on the airport's common use infrastructure.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures to ensure efficient common use facility operations, international flight operations and compliance with International and Customs and Border Protection processing standards.
  • Working with Transportation Security Administration security requirements as they relate to a common use environment, while providing general direction to airlines and staff on common use baggage handling system operations.
  • Collaborate with the Airport Duty Manager, airlines, command center staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Streamlining work processes to facilitate quick response to common use issues, audit compliance, and updating Aviation rules and regulations.

Requirements

The City of Phoenix Aviation Department is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and talented individual for our Terminal Operations Coordinator (Aviation Supervisor II) for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. This position interacts heavily with airport operations, the Airport Duty Manager, airlines, and vendors while collaborating with outside organizations, government agencies, and command center staff. The incumbent will focus on ensuring an enhanced passenger experience by being responsible for overseeing the stability and efficiency of airport and airline operations within the terminal buildings. This position will supervise Terminal Operations staff and will be responsible for managing administrative tasks and other functions necessary for consistent and optimal airport operational performance. This position will report to the Terminal Operations Manager.

Qualifications

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in airport activities or a technically specific area.
  • One year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Pay

SALARY
Pay Range: $30.92 to $47.95 per hour.
Hiring Range: $30.92 to $39.45 per hour.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 055. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
- Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
- Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
- Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
- When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.
