Tenured/Tenure-Track: Assistant/Associate Professor - Small Animal Ophthalmology

About the role

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant or associate professor in comparative ophthalmology on an 11-month appointment. This position has an anticipated start date in Spring 2023.

Responsibilities

• Devote up to 40% of his or her time to instruction, consultation and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH).
• Share clinical duties with a total of three board-certified ophthalmologists and 2 ophthalmology residents.
• Evaluate approximately 1100 small animal- and approximately 150 large animal-cases per year.
• Manage cases, instruct veterinary students, mentor interns and residents, and participate in after-hours emergency coverage, shared equally among three faculty members.
• Develop an independent and collaborative research program.
• Supervise house officers and participate in resident training (including rounds, journal club, and back-up support).

Requirements

• A DVM degree (or equivalent) and being a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (DACVO) or eligible to sit for the exam to become board-certified.
• Licenses or eligibility for regular or special licenses to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences and an active group of house officers that includes more than 50 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical disciplines.
