Tenure-Track Position in Mathematics
About the role
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Algebra or Analysis. The department is collaborative and interactive, pursuing original investigations in Differential Geometry, Partial Differential Equations, Functional Analysis, Mathematical Physics, Algebraic Topology, Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Number Theory, Combinatorics and Algorithms, Category Theory, Logic and its applications to Computer Science, and several other areas of current mathematical development. Housed within the School of Arts & Sciences (which includes the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Division, and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies), the department benefits from the breadth and depth of academic pursuits at Penn and the proximity of resources on its contiguous green urban campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. University, School, and departmental resources supporting these efforts include the Offices of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Vice Provost for Research, PennGlobal, Wellness at Penn, the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Innovation, the Penn Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, and Penn Human Resources. The department offers an undergraduate major that provides students an understanding of the modern discipline of mathematics, teaches hundreds of undergraduates and about sixty graduate students each year, and prepares graduates for postdoctoral and faculty positions, government agency research, industry data analysis, and biotech research. Faculty also engage in cross-disciplinary efforts with programs in computer science, physics, systems and mechanical engineering, and operations research and statistics in the business school.
