About the Center

The Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies (CFCS), Peking University (PKU), China, is a university initiative co-founded by Professors John Hopcroft (Turing Awardee) and Wen Gao (CAE, ACM/IEEE Fellow). The center aims to develop excellence in research and education.

On the research front, the center provides a world-class research environment where innovation and impactful research are the central aims, measured by professional reputation among global scholars rather than publication counts or research funding.

On the education front, the center is deeply involved in the Turing Class, an elite undergraduate program that selects top students from PKU’s talent pool. The program features a redesigned curriculum and pedagogy to cultivate a new generation of computer scientists and engineers proficient in both theory and practice.

Positions and Qualifications

The center invites applications for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions. We seek applicants from all areas of Computer Science, including theoretical foundations, systems, software, and applications, with a special emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning. We are particularly interested in candidates conducting interdisciplinary research at the frontiers of Computer Science with fields such as data sciences, engineering, and mathematical, medical, physical, and social sciences.

• Applicants must have completed (or be completing) a Ph.D.
• Demonstrated ability to pursue a program of research.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• A successful candidate will teach one to two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels and build and lead a research team of undergraduate and graduate students.

The center also seeks qualified candidates for postdoctoral positions.

• Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline or expect to complete it within a year.
• Substantive record of research accomplishments.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty members in the center.
