About the role

The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), Daytona Beach, invites applications for an open-rank faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) focused on: 1) next-generation terrestrial aerospace infrastructure, and 2) space infrastructure and extraterrestrial construction.

This strategic hire advances ERAU’s mission to lead innovation in aerospace, space infrastructure, and engineering solutions for off-planet environments and aviation/aerospace infrastructure needs at home.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and education supporting next-generation space structures, lunar and planetary infrastructure, and construction technologies for extreme environments, aligned with NASA’s Moon-to-Mars architecture, DARPA’s 10-Year Lunar Architecture, and the future of human space exploration.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree in engineering; a doctorate in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Desired Areas Of Expertise Include(but Not Limited To): Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure including vertiports and integrated urban systems, Spaceport and launch/landing infrastructure for terrestrial and extraterrestrial applications, Structural design and deployment of space-based and planetary infrastructure, Autonomous, robotic, and in-situ construction systems, Advanced materials, additive manufacturing, and novel structural systems for space applications, Regolith-based construction, in-situ resource utilization (ISRU), and extraterrestrial site development, AI-enabled methods for assessment and operation.

Qualifications

  • Strong publication record, potential for securing external research funding, excellence in the classroom, commitment to innovative and experiential learning, effective communication skills, student-centered teaching, ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
