Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Philosophy, Program of Liberal Studies
About the role
The Program of Liberal Studies (PLS) seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor in Philosophy beginning August 2027. Duties will include research, teaching and service.
Responsibilities
- Research in the text-based approach to History of Philosophy, with a preference for the Pre-Modern or Early Modern periods.
- Teaching responsibility will be a 2-2 course load, including the Program's Great Books seminars and its three philosophy courses (tutorials): Philosophical Inquiry, Ethics, and Metaphysics and Epistemology.
- Contribute to other disciplinary-based courses in the department as appropriate.
- Advise undergraduate senior theses.
Requirements
- Candidates at the entry level must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree or have completed all but dissertation in Philosophy or a closely related field with an expectation to have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. degree by August 2027.
- Candidates at the advanced level must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field.
- Strong publication program, evidence of superior teaching and readiness to lead seminars across periods and fields, and a commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education are expected.
