About the role

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSEN) in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Quantum Materials. This position is part of a university‑wide cluster hire in Quantum Sciences and Technology, aiming to hire five faculty across engineering and science to build a highly interdisciplinary community at the intersection of physics, chemistry, materials science, and electrical engineering. The successful candidate will establish and lead an internationally recognized, externally funded research program emphasizing experimental synthesis/growth and characterization of emergent quantum materials. Areas of particular interest include:

  • Experimental synthesis and growth for quantum materials and related systems
  • Emergent properties and phenomena of quantum materials
  • Low‑dimensional and correlated quantum materials, with applications in twistronics, spintronics, and devices
  • Defects and solid‑state qubits for quantum sensing and other emerging technologies
  • Topological phases and quantum geometry, with applications in quantum information science and device applications

The candidate will engage with a broad network of researchers across departments and institutes at Texas A&M, foster new approaches to quantum phenomena, and enable next‑generation quantum technologies. MSEN is a growing department with 22 full‑time and 6 joint tenured/tenure‑track faculty, serving about 300 undergraduate and 200 graduate students, and is well integrated within the College of Engineering.

Responsibilities
