Assistant Professor, Materials Science and Engineering
About the role
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at UCF invites applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-earning, assistant professor position. The successful candidate will be part of the core Materials Science and Engineering program and will focus on research areas related to UCF’s Infectious Disease Initiative.
Responsibilities
- Conduct impactful research in areas such as novel functional materials for pathogen mitigation, drug delivery, and characterization of pathogen-materials interfaces.
- Develop innovative sensor materials and devices for detecting pathogens related to infectious diseases.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance research in materials science and engineering and biomedical sciences.
- Educate undergraduate and graduate students in the aforementioned research areas.
- Establish strong ties with industrial partners, particularly those in the travel and tourism sector.
Requirements
- An earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Materials Science and Engineering, or closely related discipline, by the start of the appointment.
- Strong commitment to academic activities, including teaching, scholarly publications, and sponsored research.
Preferred Qualifications
- An exceptional record of scholarly research in one or more of the targeted technical areas.
- A history of working with teams, especially those spanning multiple disciplines.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
- Preferred qualifications: Exceptional research record in relevant areas.
