Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor (Architectural Engineering – Building Mechanical Systems)

About the Role

The ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering (AREN) program will join the Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University effective September 1, 2026. The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a nine-month academic appointment. An additional summer appointment may be available, contingent upon departmental needs and the availability of funds. The anticipated start date is Spring 2027 or Fall 2027.

Research Focus Areas

Applicants will be considered with expertise in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with a focus on Building Mechanical Systems. We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Building HVAC systems
• Building energy modeling and simulation
• High-performance and net-zero energy buildings
• Indoor environmental quality
• Sustainable and resilient building systems
• Thermal sciences as applied to buildings
• Smart buildings, building automation and controls
• Artificial intelligence/machine learning for intelligent building operation
• Renewable energy integration
• District energy systems
• Advanced sensing, diagnostics, and fault detection

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses
• Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
• Develop an independent, externally funded research program
• Participate in departmental activities and service
• Collaborate with faculty across the College of Engineering
• Engage with industry and government partners and in professional service
• Contribute to the continued growth of the Architectural Engineering program
• Contribute to undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement activities associated with maintaining excellence in the ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering program

Qualifications

Required:

• Earned doctoral degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline by the appointment date. Candidates completing all Ph.D. requirements except the dissertation (ABD) will be considered, provided they demonstrate clear progress toward completion.
• Strong background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and building environmental systems
• Potential to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research program
• Commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and student mentoring
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and with industry partners
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

• Professional Engineering licensure or the ability to obtain licensure
