Faculty - Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor- Architecture

Utah Valley University’s Department of Architecture & Engineering Design invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Architecture beginning January 1, 2027.

About the role

The architecture faculty member develops and teaches architectural design studio courses and other subjects such as architectural theory, graphic communication, history, and building science. The role includes scholarly activities that support the university, department, and profession, as well as service at the department, college, and university levels. UVU emphasizes teaching excellence and fosters a learning environment that helps students achieve their objectives. The department offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program focused on a 21st-century classical approach, integrating human-scale design, craft, sustainability, and cultural continuity with contemporary technologies and professional practice. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development, accreditation efforts, and student mentorship in a studio-centered learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories using diverse educational methods.
• Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
• Prepare instructional materials and evaluate student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
• Engage in scholarly activities, including applied research, and produce scholarly/creative work aligned with disciplinary specialization and departmental goals.
• Serve the department, college, and university through committee work and other service appointments.

Requirements

• NAAB or other accredited professional degree in architecture (M.Arch).

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of professional practice experience in an architecture office.
• Certificate in Classical Architecture from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA) or a degree from a university with a focus on classical or traditional architecture.
• Experience working directly with the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
• One or more years of successful teaching experience in higher education.
• Professional license in Architecture OR completion of the experience requirements of the AXP program and progress toward completing the Architectural Registration Exam.

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge of traditional and classical architectural theory, history, and design.
  • Awareness of cultural and historical contexts influencing architectural design.
  • Understanding of the NAAB accreditation process.
  • Knowledge of building science and building codes.
• Skills:
  • Strong design and architectural problem-solving skills, with proficiency in developing these in students.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering programs.
  • Aptitude for collaboration with colleagues, industry professionals, and community stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and program coordination skills.
  • Effective verbal, technical written, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong presentation and proposal skills.
