Tenure-track position in Digital Art at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, Indiana University Bloomington, beginning August 1, 2027.

About the role

The Digital Art area seeks an innovative artist, scholar, and educator who integrates advanced technical expertise with creative innovation. Responsibilities include maintaining a robust record of scholarly and creative achievement, teaching digital art at undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring students, and contributing to service and administrative duties such as committee participation and leadership of the Digital Art area.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong potential for scholarly and creative achievement, with a program of research and creative practice recognized nationally and internationally. They should also exhibit the ability to engage critically and creatively with emerging technologies and evolving forms of expression.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a robust record of scholarly and creative achievement.
  • Teach digital art courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (4 courses per academic year, 2/2 load).
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in service and administrative responsibilities, including committee work and coordination of graduate assistants and area faculty.
  • Provide leadership and contribute to the development of the Digital Art area.
  • Build productive relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and community partners.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., MFA, or equivalent) in digital art or a closely related field by the start date of employment.
  • At least two years of college-level teaching experience; preference for experience beyond graduate-level teaching assistantships.
  • Strong record of scholarly and creative achievement, including juried exhibitions, funded projects, performances, scholarly publications, or other significant research and creative outcomes.
  • Expertise in one or more areas of digital art, such as:
    • Creative coding
    • Computational, algorithmic, and generative art
    • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
    • Human-computer interaction
    • Interactive media
    • Game art and animation
    • Virtual, mixed, and augmented reality
    • Computational storytelling
    • Film, video, and audiovisual media
    • Data visualization
    • Digital fabrication
    • Physical computing
    • Wearable technologies
    • Creative technologies and related emerging practices
  • Capacity to engage critically and creatively with emerging technologies and evolving forms of expression.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Pay

Salary range: $65,000 - $80,000 for a 10-month academic year.
