About the role
The Department of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Painting and Digital Illustration, starting August 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teach a range of courses—from foundations to advanced levels—in painting and digital illustration for both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Collaborate with current drawing and painting faculty to strengthen the existing painting curriculum.
- Develop new coursework and curricular pathways in digital illustration.
- Mentor and advise students.
- Participate in MFA thesis committees.
- Engage in departmental, college, and university service.
Requirements
- MFA in Studio Art with concentration in Painting.
- Demonstrated specialization in digital illustration.
- Demonstrated skills at painting from direct observation.
- At least two years of college-level teaching experience.
- Active exhibition record.

- Global vision for developing a curriculum in contemporary art.
- Commitment to developing a curriculum that exposes students to multiple cultural forms and diverse perspectives.
- Deep understanding of art theory.
- Evidence of working collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines.
- Experience with, and commitment to, educating and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds and demographics.
Skills

- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
