Primary Purpose

Supports the mission of the division by performing a wide variety of administrative and operational tasks in assigned department, including but not limited to project planning, customer service and support, and coordinating activities/functions to ensure efficient operations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs general administrative duties.
  • Provides high level customer service in assisting students.
  • Responds to inquiries requiring an understanding of work-area policies and procedures.
  • Assists department in the planning of projects, events, programming and initiatives.
  • Enters data and generates reports from NSU specific software systems.
  • Maintains accurate and secure records as required by laws, policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Attends meetings and trainings.
  • Serves on committees as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Customer and Personal Service – Working knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.
  • Psychology – Working knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; and learning and motivation.
  • Computers and Electronics – Working knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware. General knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel).

Skills:

  • Active Listening – Basic skills in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Speaking – Proficient skills in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Reading Comprehension – Proficient understanding of written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Social Perceptiveness – Proficient skills in being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Critical Thinking – Basic skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Writing – Proficient skills in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Judgment and Decision Making – Basic skills in considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the appropriate one.
  • Service Orientation – Proficient skills in actively looking for ways to help people.

Abilities:

  • Oral Comprehension & Expression – The ability to listen to, understand, and communicate information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences so others will understand.
  • Written Comprehension & Expression – The ability to read, understand, and communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Deductive Reasoning – The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Problem Sensitivity – The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Inductive Reasoning – The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

Physical Requirements

  • Speech Recognition – Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • Speech Clarity – Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • Near Vision – Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • May be required to work nights or weekends.
  • Travel – Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: One (1) year of student services-related experience.
