Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.
Responsibilities
- Plan instruction, including written lesson plans aligned with instructional program objectives, establishing positive learning expectations, and evaluating pupil progress while maintaining accurate records.
- Implement instructional methods using contemporary learning theory, teaching methodology, and available instructional materials; participate in developing and applying new teaching techniques.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of curriculum content for assigned subject areas and instructional level.
- Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism initiatives.
- Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct in classrooms, playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms consistent with Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
- Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept; ensure fairness and respect in teacher-pupil relationships.
- Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, or ancillary personnel following school procedures.
- Communicate with parents or guardians regarding pupil academic progress, attendance, and conduct; counsel pupils as needed.
- Participate in in-service and professional staff meetings; utilize provided information and materials.
- May coordinate and attend class field trips; may participate in extra-curricular and after-school activities.
- Utilize community resources to support the educational program.
Requirements
- Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Possess a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
- Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary teaching principles, and classroom/behavior management techniques.
- Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs, cooperate with faculty and administration, and work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives.
- Understanding of physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
- Skill in applying contemporary teaching practices, strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and sound professional judgment.
Physical Requirements
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
- Ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle and finger objects occasionally.
- Constant talking and hearing; frequent use of near visual acuity; occasional use of far visual acuity.

Pay
Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39
