Job Summary
Campus Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and skilled Specialized Instructors to join our dynamic team. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in martial arts, dance, weight training, and wellness-focused disciplines such as meditation, sleep health, yoga, and mind-body practices. Candidates must possess a current, nationally recognized certification, appropriate belt ranking, relevant degree in their area of specialization, and/or applicable fitness certification or licensure related to the format of instruction.
Responsibilities
- Lead safe and engaging classes for 4-12 participants of varying abilities and fitness levels.
- Modify activities and adapt programming in real-time to meet participants' needs while supporting a safe environment.
- Organize and manage class schedules effectively.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in a group setting to deliver instruction, motivation, and feedback.
- Maintain a consistent teaching schedule and communicate in advance regarding absences or coverage needs.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of each session and stay for at least 10 minutes following the end of the session.
- Adhere to all university and Campus Recreation policies, procedures, and professional standards of conduct.
- Demonstrate physical ability to perform exercises, stand for extended periods, and safely lift and move equipment (minimum of 45 lbs overhead).
- Show enthusiasm for contributing to a positive, student-centered fitness culture focused on wellness, belonging, and personal growth.
Qualifications
- One year of experience preferred but not required, of actively leading successful dance classes in group fitness setting.
- Current Group Fitness and CPR/AED certification and must maintain certification throughout employment.
- Desired qualifications include possession of a current, nationally recognized certification, appropriate belt ranking, relevant degree in the area of specialization, and/or applicable fitness certification or license relevant to the format of instruction.
- Prior teaching or instructional experience in martial arts, self-defense, fitness, or related movement-based disciplines.
- Current CPR/AED/First aid certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
