About the Role

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department (MCPRD) is seeking a Temporary Recreation Assistant to assist with a variety of outdoor special events, activities, and commemorative events. This position will primarily be located in the Uptown Charlotte area, but events will be at various locations and times. The incumbent will provide light housekeeping and sanitation before, during, and after events, prepare facilities for reservations/bookings, and assist with other event duties as assigned.

The selected candidate will work a varying schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the special events and reservations schedule. Hours vary and are subject to change, typical for event operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and handle funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, website, social media, and in-person interactions for information, program registration, center daily use, and rentals.
  • Ensure the safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
  • Prepare facilities before and after scheduled reservations for weddings and non-wedding events.
  • Visit Park and Recreation venues/sites to monitor events and assist with special events.
  • Enforce rules and regulations at facilities.
  • Collect fees and take registrations for facility rentals.
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Assist with Department-sponsored events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License with County Driving Privileges.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Experience assisting with special events.

Work Environment

This position may require working outdoors.
