Temporary Snow Plow Operator - Garrison Transportation Generalist

Temporary position located in Garrison, MN. End date: 4/20/2027.

About the role

MnDOT District 3 will fill 1 temporary Snow Plow Driver position in the Garrison Truck Station. Temporary employees have a schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm or during a snow and ice event will go on a split shift which could include weekends. During a snow & ice season employees are typically split into an A or B shift, 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift); an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour (1) of being called.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.
• Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
• Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.
• Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.
• Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.

Requirements

• One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).
• OR successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience. (Transcripts must be submitted to be considered in lieu of work experience).
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist.

Additional Requirements

• Successful candidate must pass past-employer reference checks and criminal history check.
• Background investigation prior to employment, including SEMA4 Records Check, Criminal History Check, Employment Reference Check, Education/License Verification, and Driver's License Check.
• This position is contingent upon the selected job candidate having a valid Commercial Driver’s License, submitting to a Federal Department of Transportation Pre-employment drug test (with negative test results), being subject to future random drug and alcohol testing, and being registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Subject to drug and alcohol testing. Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a preplacement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM).

Pay

$25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,596 - $65,980 / annually.
