About the role

The Public Works Road Maintenance Division of Coconino County is seeking Snowplow Operators to assist with maintaining County-maintained roads, including snow removal. Positions are available in Flagstaff, Williams, and Blue Ridge, Arizona. There are approximately 20 Temporary On-Call positions available.

Responsibilities

  • Operates various mechanical equipment
  • Performs inspection and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, buildings, and facilities
  • Participates in construction/maintenance projects

Requirements

  • Two years of experience operating equipment appropriate to position under field conditions OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Must have an Arizona CDL Class A or B

Qualifications

  • Three years road construction experience and two years of snowplow experience preferred

Skills

  • Knowledge of laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to equipment operation
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices used in construction and maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of inspection and preventive maintenance practices applying to mechanical equipment
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment under field conditions
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and react appropriately
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
  • Ability to work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers' service specifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Pay

This position is non-exempt from overtime. Employee benefits vary based on employment status (regular part-time employees receive some benefits on a pro-rated basis. Temporary and seasonal employees do not receive benefits. Elected officials are not eligible for vacation and sick leave.)

Schedule

Varying shifts, weekends, and holidays are required. Safety-sensitive position.
